I have been AMD user for almost 22 years, I find it ridicules that regardless how featureless nVidia drivers are you are still allow to install it on W8.1, even if AMD does not support it, preventing you from doing it is anti-consumer and I assume that the Windows Server systems are not supported either. Has anyone managed to get Windows 7 drivers of Adrenalin 2020 to install on W8.1? I have only gotten the driver files themselves to install but the control panel refuses, I was wondering if I could overwrite the lock on the control panel and force it to install or recognise W8.1 as approved OS. Windows 7 is too old and out of support next year, Windows 10 is way too unstable causing way too many issues for me and Linux is out of question, its still mostly just a server OS hobby coded into a desktop OS with nothing in it, no AMD control panel or anything. I find it peculiar behaviour of AMD, I am very reliant on using Windows 8.1 because of stability and speed also because its still officially supported by Microsoft until 2023 whether they want to or not. However with the Adrenalin 2020 driver release its the first time I seen AMD not letting you install the driver at least not the control panel and all the extra features despite all the previous Adrenalin drivers working just fine on my W8.1 system. I also cleared the cmos so the overlock is no longer applied at all.For many many years I have been able to install AMD W7 drivers on Windows 8.1 since they quit supporting it. I also tried the fix boot option, to no avail.ĮDIT: The PC in question is born and bread to overclock, it's has an i7 4790K and a gtx 770 direct cuii. Next I Google it and typed all sorts of things to try and get it to work into CMD, none of which worked. What kind of an error message is that?! When it says restart the computer which drive does it want me to boot and where do I select an operating system? Restart the computer, select an operating system, and then select system restore." "to use system restore, you must specify which windows instillation to restore. Next I tried resetting it to an earlier back up point, as I regularly update those for this event. I then booted from the instilation media (the disk) and selected refresh or something but the disk was locked (don't know how it knew as I never specified what disk to look in. The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. When it came back of it said Recover, Windows needs to be fixed.Īfter inserting the install disk as requested I hit the enter key as prompted (to try again) but the error code changed, it now read: It all started when I was playing battlefront and was getting fairly low fps, so I started overclocking my graphics card and processor to see if that would help, but when I was overclocking my processor using Intel extreme tuning utility it asked me to reboot, so I did.
